Sustainable Tourism

Sustainable WanakaSkydive Wanaka has been an active and keen business in the Sustainable Tourism Project in Wanaka.

This project has involved Skydive Wanaka looking at where we would like to be โ€“ our ideal sustainable goal for our company, and then creating an action plan to work towards our vision.

Our vision is our mission:

  • To give you, our customer, the most rewarding, memorable, safe and scenic tandem skydive in New Zealand whilst being kind to our planet.
  • Since our commitment to being a sustainable business we have implemented the following changes;
  • Monitoring energy uses, we have stopped using 3 refrigerated machines to provide drinks, water and snacks and combined into one machine that dispenses everything, this machine is more energy efficient and kept inside thus reducing electricity usage.
  • We have introducted a water fountain to ensure a supply of drinking water for our customers without having to purchase a plastic bottle or washing dishes.
  • Commenced on site recycling, we encourage our customers to leave their recyclables in a recycle bin provided at our drop zone at Wanaka Airport.
  • Posted our vision in each toilet at the drop zone to remind our customers about our commitment to our environment.
  • We created this web page to educate and encourage any customer feedback. Comments about our business or how we can improve our commitment to our environment can be left on our blog page.
  • Febuary 2009 Skydive Lake Wanaka was awarded a Qualmark Silver Enviro Logo which demonstrates our on going commitment to enviromental & sustainable practices.
  • To support our community Skydive Wanaka donates many tandem skydives each year to local groups to use for their fund raising and as prizes for local events.
  • Skydive Lake Wanaka is a Kowhai supporter of Te Kakano Aotearoa Trust. It’s vision is to promote & facilitate hands-on community land care, with the aim of fostering healthy lands & waterways, and creating a stronger link between people & the environment. The Te Kakano nursary grows and plants native seedlings around the Wanaka area. They are always looking for volunteers and we have some information at the drop zone if you wish to incorporate some volunteer work into your travels and help give some of your skydive back to the earth.

Thank you for loving our planet too!
